Come together and enjoy the typical brewhouse cuisine: Drinking “Kölsch”, a special beer only brewed in Cologne, and eating some local specialities in a friendly and open-minded atmosphere.

You are invited to join us for varied TOURISTIC and CULTURAL activities, get to know SOCIAL facilities or enjoy the NATURE of the Rhineland. We will offer different tours, among which you can choose.

The cultural programme on Saturday consists of three sections A, B and C, according to the kind of event and the time slot, to which they are assigned.
You may combine events from section A and section B. The offers from section C can only be selected independently, as they last the whole day and take place outside of Cologne.

SECTION A between 11:00 am and 01:00 pm (within Cologne)

Event A/1 - Visit: Counselling Bus
Visit the
"Counselling Bus" – a point of contact for youngsters and young adults with social worker, where they can get anonymously information and counselling on all relevant topics for free, most notably on health prevention. It is an outstanding project, taking place in a converted bus near Cologne central station.
Event A/2 - Women in Medicine Yesterday and Today (Women's History Association)
This walk will focus on women in medical sciences in the past and present. We will follow the traces of a famous Cologne legend coming from the times of the plague, get to know Jewish female doctors, wise women and saints who competed with doctors and craft surgeons in the early modern health market and meet Cologne's first x-ray assistant.
Event A/3 - Guided tour over the roofs of the Cologne Cathedral (also offered in Section B)
Let yourself be overwhelmed by one of the most spectacular views Cologne has to offer on top of the Cologne Cathedral. Explore tower rooms unknown high above the city and get to know the cathedral’s construction history still visible over the roof of the cathedral.Important note: Participants must be height stable and free from giddiness. Not fully accessible.
Event A/4 - Old Town Walk
Explore the old town of Cologne walking along the most important sights concentrated around the Cologne Cathedral, town hall and the Romanesque church Groß St. Martin. The narrow, cobbled alleys of the old town will make you feel shifted to the past of the cathedral city.
Event A/5 – Walk: Jewish Life in Cologne
The Jewish community has contributed to the economic and cultural life of Cologne ever since the city was founded. Plenty of traces witness its members’ achievements throughout the centuries, but also the prejudices and tragic persecutions they had to face.

SECTION B between 01:00 and 03:00 pm (within Cologne)

Event B/1 - Visit: Ebertplatz
The "Ebertplatz", a square close to the university, was long regarded as a problem area. Since 2018, various initiatives, residents and work groups have been collaborating with the City of Cologne to transform it back into a popular and widely used public square. Backgrounds and results of this development are presented on site. In addition, the neighbourhood festival "Experience Ebertplatz" takes place there on this day.
Event B/2 - Visit: Railway Mission
Railway missions, established at around 100 train stations in Germany, offer help to travellors and others. Qualified volunteers support persons in need by getting on, off and changing trains or by obtaining first orientation in the city. They accompany children travelling alone, offer accommodation and first counselling for people in distress and, if neccessary, arrange help by specialized social service agencies.
Event B/3 - Guided tour over the roofs of the Cologne Cathedral (also offered in Section A) - between 2:30 and 4:00 pm

Event B/4 - Guided tour "Street Art Ehrenfeld"
This guided tour will turn your gaze on legal and illegal art of the streets of the Cologne quarter Ehrenfeld. You will discover the diversity of Street Art artists coming from Cologne, Germany and even the whole world and will learn about their different techniques and styles.


An offer from section C outside Cologne can only be selected independently.

SECTION C - EXCURSIONS from 11:00 am on throughout the day (excursions outside Cologne)

Tour C/1 - Excursion to the Federal City of Bonn
Get to know German history at the former capital of the Federal Republic of Germany. Walking around the former government quarter you will see places that have shaped the history of democracy in Germany since 1949, the year the Federal Republic was founded: Parliament and government buildings, embassies and state representations, places on the history of political parties and the media, and places of democratic protest. This excursion includes a visit to the famous “House of History”, a place where German history could not be more visible.
Tour C/2 - Hiking tour to the Drachenfels mountain and castle
This hiking tour is for all the nature lovers. Out in the green you will hike to the most famous mountain of the Cologne region. Enjoy the magnificent view over the whole Rhine valley and visit the imposing castle ruins on top of the Drachenfels mountain. Important note: Not fully accessible. Stable physical condition needed. Please bring solid footwear.
